2017 ASA-Midwest Automotive Student Scholarships
Four (4) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in 2017

ASA-Midwest welcomes your application for the 2017 Automotive Scholarships to support academic
achievement and promote automotive service career opportunities.
                              
Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA in high school and, if currently enrolled in college or votech,
    must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours of an automotive technology program at an accredited college or vocational school in the Midwest; OR be a high school senior currently enrolled in a votech automotive program with a plan to register and attend a college
    automotive technology program in the summer or fall of 2017 in one of the following states: Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, or Oklahoma. Prior recipients are eligible to reapply for the scholarship as long as they continue to meet the application criteria.
  • Demonstrate a financial need.

 The Robert L. O’Connor Memorial Scholarship

The Robert L. O’Connor Memorial Scholarship established in 2011 to commemorate the life of Bob O’Connor and to continue his legacy.  Having committed to leadership, training and raising the professionalism of the automotive service industry, Bob influenced thousands of shop owners and service advisors across the country. He was a long-time supporter of the VISION event and presented training at VISION on numerous occasions.

The Robert L. O’Connor Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually for a recipient to attend management training at the VISION HiTech Training & Expo. Candidates for this scholarship must meet all of the requirements listed below and submit all requested information to be reviewed by the selection committee. Scholarship includes a weekend training package and two nights hotel. Transportation to and from the event is the responsibility of the recipient.

The ideal candidate must:

  • demonstrate a desire to attend management training
  • exhibit a financial need to attend VISION.

 2017 Technical Training Scholarship

The Automotive Service Association of the Midwest provides one technical training scholarship
to its annual event, the VISION HiTech Training & Expo. The scholarship consists of gratis
conference registration and hotel accommodations for up to two nights. Hotel reservations will
be made by ASA at one of the conference’s host hotels. The Friday Package is not included in the
scholarship. One need not be a member of the ASA to apply for a scholarship.  Scholarship
applications must be submitted no later than January 13, 2017. The Awards Committee will review
all applications and base their recommendations on expressed financial need, clear objective for use
of the scholarship and goals for career development. All applicants will be notified of the committee
selection and the decision will be final. 

The applicant must:

  • be currently employed in the independent automotive service industry or a votech/college instructor. 
  • Recipients are responsible for their own transportation.  Scholarship is non-transferable.

2017 VISION Facility of the Year Award

Is your shop a candidate for the VISION Service Facility of the Year? The Facility of the Year Award will be presented on Saturday, March 4, 2017 during the “Celebration of Independents” Awards Dinner held at the VISION Hi-Tech Training & Expo.

Eligibility requirements for the VISION Service Facility of the Year:

  • Must attend the VISION HiTech Training & Expo in 2017.  Note: It is no longer required for the shop
    to be a member of ASA-Midwest
  • Must conduct business in a manner which raises the professionalism of the industry.
  • Must regularly participate in association and/or industry activities.
  • Must exhibit leadership in the industry.
  • Must be involved in the community such as Chamber of Commerce, Optimist, Boy Scouts and other similar groups.
  • Must have some measurable form of CSI such as AAA, NAPA, CARQUEST and have a minimum average of 95.
  • Must have professional appearance inside and out, landscaping and grounds to be kept clean.

2017 VISION Humanitarian Award

The VISION Humanitarian Award was established in 2012 to recognize outstanding contributions
in the community. The recipient of the award is recognized annually and given an award at the VISION
Celebration of Independents Awards Dinner on Saturday evening.

What is a humanitarian? A humanitarian endeavors to improve the human condition through saving lives,
improving the quality of life, and alleviating suffering, while supporting and contributing to the basic human
dignity of those in need.

A humanitarian:

  • Gives of him/herself regardless of compensation
  • Provides services without expectation of remuneration
  • Provides services to all equally, impartially, cooperatively and neutrally
  • Embraces common moral decencies such as altruism, integrity, freedom, justice, honesty, truthfulness, responsibility and compassion
  • Respects and embraces human diversity
  • Improves the lives of those in need through selfless, courageous, creative and compassionate acts.

Nomination Criteria:  Nominee must be a conference attendee, exhibitor or instructor at VISION 2017.

 VISION Green Star Facility Award

A Green Star Facility is environmentally sound, including recycling and safely disposing of waste products.
Facilities being presented with the Green Star will be recognized at the Celebration of Independents
Awards Dinner on Saturday evening, and will have a special recognition ribbon attached to their name badges.

 2017 VISION Best Website Award

Does your website raise the professionalism of the industry while providing valuable information about your business?  VISION will recognize one attending service facility with the “Best Website” award. Presentation will take place during the Celebration of Independents Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Submissions will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges based on the following criteria:

  • Content
  • Structure and Navigation
  • Visual Design
  • Functionality
  • Interactivity
  • Overall Experience

Submission Criteria: The company must be represented by at least one employee attending training
at the VISION 2017 event. Open to both collision and mechanical service facilities.

2017 Educator of the Year Award

VISION HiTech Training & Expo launched the Educator Think Tank Program with the goal of bringing together Automotive Technology educators in a learning driven and exciting environment to brainstorm, collaborate, and learn. With the success of the program, comes a desire to recognize these educators that have dedicated their careers to the Automotive Technology Industry and that teach and empower the
future of the industry. This honor will be awarded to an individual who’s commitment to their program and students sets them apart. They will have demonstrated innovative and successful teaching methods and a drive to continually adapt and move forward in their teaching field. The top educators will be highlighted at the 2017 Educator Think Tank Luncheon to be held Friday, March 3rd at VISION HiTech Training & Expo. The Educator of the Year will be announced at the VISION Celebration of Independents Awards Dinner on Saturday evening, March 4th.

Submission Criteria: Applicants must be currently employed by an educational institution in an Automotive Technology program and attending the 2017 VISION event

  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA in high school and, if currently enrolled in college or votech,
    must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours of an automotive technology program at an accredited college or vocational school in the Midwest; OR be a high school senior currently enrolled in a votech automotive program with a plan to register and attend a college
    automotive technology program within the United Statese in the summer or fall of 2017.
  • Demonstrate a financial need.
